Agnes Marie Mattox

Agnes Marie (Harris) Mattox, 87, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 20, 2017.Agnes was born July 21, 1930 in Belmont Ridge, Ohio to William and Hazel (Hunt) Harris. Always full of life and energy, Agnes loved to travel with her husband, Harold, tend to her garden and dote on her family. She lived to care for others and was a lifelong volunteer for many organizations in Mansfield, including Laundry Basket Library, Meals on Wheels, area nursing homes and schools. A proud member of TOPS (0425), she served as the Treasurer for decades. And the only time Agnes ever raised her voice was while cheering on the Indians and arguing a bad call.She is survived by five children, Gary (Susan) Taylor, Greg (Kathie) Taylor, Becki Smith, Robert Mattox and stepdaughter, Bonnie (Ken) Jenkins; twelve grandchildren, Brian Smith, Amanda (Ross) Gibson, Christopher Taylor, Matthew (Elizabeth) Taylor, Nichole Taylor, Autumn Mattox, Harmony Mattox, Skylar Mattox, Ireland Mattox, Janice Mattox, Steven Rogers, and Brian Sweet; and three great-grandchildren, Wesley Gibson, Alice Gibson, and Owen Taylor. Agnes has many special friends and neighbors, including Marianne Cappadonna and Connie Doutt, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.Agnes was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; her devoted husband, E. Harold Mattox; and her stepdaughter, Nancy Holeda.Calling hours are Friday, November 24, 217 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services at 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial at Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to OhioHealth Hospice.
