Donna Hoover Obituary

Donna May (Custer) Hoover, 77, of Mansfield and formerly of Butler, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, October 5, 2016.Donna was born May 7, 1939 in Valier, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Wesley and Gladys Lunnette (Smith) Custer. She was a 1957 graduate of Punxsutawney High School and achieved an Associates Degree in Accounting from Houghton College. She married her high school friend, John C. Hoover, on June 22, 1963, and they recently celebrated 53 years together. She enjoyed the experience of living in many different states including California, Kansas, Alaska, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Before she moved to Ohio, she was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, Butler, PA. She had a passion for the lost and prayed for her family to receive Christ as their Savior. Donna loved teaching her Sunday School class, working in the nursery, and going on New Mother's Visitation. For the past ten years, she has attended Mansfield Baptist Temple and enjoyed being a part of the Temple Toppers and other activities at the church.Donna loved to travel and was known to take pictures of EVERYTHING. She enjoyed attending the ballgames of her children, grand-children, and church family children. Donna liked baking and decorating cakes, making ceramics, crocheting, gardening, and putting photos in albums for everyone to enjoy. She was a bargain shopper and could never pass up a good deal. She is survived by her loving husband and caregiver for the past ten years, John C. Hoover; four children, John W. (Rhonda) Hoover and Donna J. (John) Garcia both of Mansfield, Daniel C. (Kelly) Hoover of Indiana, and Samuel L. (Candy) Hoover of Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Michaela (Roger) Freeman , Kaylea, Caleb, Trenton, Kaylin, Zane, Joshua, Samantha, and Tabitha; three siblings, Wayne (Shirley) Custer of NY, John "Jack" (Donna) Custer of IN, and Helen Lewis of PA; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Hulda Custer; and brother-in-law, Donald Lewis.Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Monday, October 10, 2016, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield, OH. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Mansfield Baptist Temple, 752 N. Stewart Road, Mansfield, OH with Pastor Robert J. Kurtz and Pastor Joel Ward officiating. Burial will be on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 11:15 a.m. Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH.
