Freda May Phelps

Freda May Phelps, 98, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014 following a lengthy illness. Freda was born March 12, 1916 in Dudley, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Earl and Marie (Clements) Hutchins. She had retired as a line worker from Westinghouse. A loving wife and doting mother, May, as she was called, cared most about her family. She was a friend to all and enjoyed sewing and baking. She also enjoyed fishing, spending her later years on the lakes of Florida.Freda is survived by her granddaughter, Kelly Blankenship of Mansfield; one grandson, Jason Phelps of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.Along with her parents, Freda was preceded in death by her husband, George Olen Phelps; one son, Thomas Phelps; and five siblings, Lynley Mead Hutchins, Carl Hutchins, Bessie Hutchins Decker, Eddie Hutchins, and Oral Hutchins. Private graveside services will be held in Mansfield Memorial Park on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, LTD. is assisting the family with the arrangements.
