Richard Dale "Dick" Spree of Lexington, Ohio, age 74, passed away on his birthday at Ohio Health Med Central Hospital on September 4, 2014 after an extended illness.Richard was born on September 4, 1940 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Martin F.H. Spree and Ruth D. (Burns) Spree He graduated with the 1958 class of Mansfield Senior High School. Following high school he started working at The Hartman-Electric Company in Mansfield. He then began to work at PPG Company in Crestline in the silk screen department as an operator and a relief operator for other departments when needed. He retired from PPG after 38 years of service. He enjoyed playing games at the holidays with his nieces, especially Aggravation, which indeed it is with all who play. He liked puttering around his home, tinkering with the landscaping of his home and giving many of his plants away to family and friends. He also enjoyed grilling for his friends, especially ribs, pulled pork and sautéed mushrooms. Richard loved fireworks and was especially proud to have received a patent, along with his friend Jim Price, for a safety fireworks holder. He also loved to try and help people laugh, have a brighter day or just feel better with his dry sense of humor. He is survived by a sister, Norma Allwine, Galion, nieces Phyllis Majors, Tucson, Arizona, Adrienne Allwine and Cinde (Charles) Qualls, Galion, two great nieces & their husbands in Tucson, Arizona and a great great niece and nephew in Tucson, Arizona, two great nieces in Galion and a great great niece in Galion and three granddaughters and one grandson in Springboro, Ohio He also leaves behind very close good friends, Jim and Sharry Price, Galion and Tony Pifher, Mansfield. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceeded in death by his older sister, LaDonna G. Bolenbaugh and her husband Floyd E. Bolenbaugh of Tucson, Arizona, and a son, David B. Baxter of Dayton, Ohio. He was a lifelong member of The First English Lutheran Church, Mansfield. Friends may call Monday, September 8, 2014, 11 AM to 1 PM at The Werner Gompf-Funeral Services LTD followed at 1 PM by the funeral services conducted by Pastor Paul Larson, First English Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at The Mansfield Cemetery. Donations may be made in Richards name to the First English Lutheran Church of Mansfield, OH.
