Sherman H. Henderson, 76, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017, following a lengthy illness. Sherman was born on July 26, 1941, in Morehead, KY, to William R. and Dovie M. (Hamm) Henderson. He was a member of Paradise Baptist Chapel, and retired from AK Steel after 32 years of employment. He loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a member of the local Union #169, and loved to fish. Sherman was an avid sports fan. In his younger years, he coached youth basketball and football, played softball, and golfed. He enjoyed all Ohio sports and the University of Kentucky basketball.He is survived by four children, John Henderson and his girlfriend Julie Cook, Paul Henderson, Debbie Strouse, and William Tyler Henderson, all of Mansfield; one grandson and his wife John (Randa) Henderson of KY; one granddaughter, Jessica Brown of KY; four great-grandchildren, Ella, Elijah, Elizabelle, and Landon; one brother, Joe Henderson; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Sherman was preceded in death by his wife, Stella (Hunt) Henderson; his granddaughter, Kayleigh Brooke Hawkins; and five siblings, Dessie Jones, Inez Hall, Isaac Henderson, Ivan Henderson, and Carl Lee Henderson.Calling hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd., 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield, OH. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Earl Tackett and Gary Lambert officiating. Burial will be at Springmill Cemetery.
