Wesley Hood Obituary

Wesley James Hood, 91, of Mansfield, died on Saturday May 7, 2016.Mr. Wesley J. Hood was born on Friday, February 27, 1925 to the late Cary and Robertha (James) Hood, Sr. in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He graduated in 1942 from Wilberforce University Vocational School as a Junior Machinist. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 to the 769th Medical Battalion but later switched to the 4419th Quartermaster Service Company, serving during WWII. He began working at Pepsi Cola Bottling Company as a bottle washer and then as a Truck Driver and eventually was promoted as a Ware House Manager for a total of 43 years until he retired in 1989.He was a member of Mitchell Chapel AME Church, where he served as an Usher, Superintendent of Sunday School, Trustee, Pastor Steward, Treasurer, and District Usher President of Six Churches. Wesley was a Prince Hall Mason; he was elected and installed as Worshipful Master of Lodge No. 80 and Free & Accepted Mason in 1971, 1972, & 1973 of the Pride of Ohio, Lodge No. 80. Wesley loved helping and serving others and his church and family were everything to him. He is survived by daughter, Betty (Louis) France of Mansfield; sons, Marcus (Pamela) Hood of Maryland and Delvin (Jowanna) Hood of Washington Court House; one brother, Carey Hood, Jr. of Mansfield; two sisters, Marybelle Adkinson of Dayton, OH and Dorothy (Bobby) Boyd of Mansfield; ten grandchildren, Shawn (Beard) Hood, Lance and Brandyn Hood, Olivia Jackson, Isaac Hood, Melanie, Adrian and Tora Davison, and Christopher and Courtland Price; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, Wesley was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude (Brent) Hood; daughter, Bonnie Price; nine brothers; and one sister. Family will accept visitors at his daughter, Betty France's home, 203 Home Avenue, Mansfield, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and his brother, Carey Hood, Jr.'s home, 880 McPherson Street, Mansfield, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. until the day of the funeral.Calling hours will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Greater Mitchell Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 182 South Adam Street, Mansfield Oh 44902. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. Louise Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery with full military honors performed by Richland Co.
