Charles Howell Obituary

Charles W. Howell, 81, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer, at OhioHealth Mansfield, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Norwalk, Ohio on February 3, 1943, to the late William and Mary (Klingler) Howell.  Charles was a devoted husband of 51 years to June (Metzger) Howell. He is survived by his wife June; daughters Denara (Mike) Kahl, Kim (Chris) Orsini and Kristi Planck (Howell); son Brian (Stephanie) Howell; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

A dedicated employee for thirty-seven years at Therm-O-Disc in Mansfield where he served as a supervisor.  Charles was known for his humble nature and never holding grudges against anyone. He didn’t know a stranger and had an infectious smile that could light up any room.  He found joy in spending time with his family especially playing with his grandkids or attending their sporting events.  His love for the outdoors led him to spend countless hours mowing and working in the yard which brought him peace and tranquility.  In addition to being an exceptional family man, Charles was also proud of his accomplishments outside of home including being inducted into the softball Hall of Fame where he showcased his athletic abilities over the years.  His dedication extended beyond just work but also proudly serving in the United States Army Reserves which demonstrated his commitment to serving others selflessly.

Calling hours will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Werner Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Ave. East, Mansfield.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the funeral home. Graveside services will immediately follow at Mansfield Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude towards Ohio Health Hospice for providing compassionate and excellent care during this difficult time.  Charles’ legacy lives on through all those whose lives he touched with kindness and love.  He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.  Donations can be made to The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
