Kenneth Phillips Sr., 81, of Georgia and formerly of Mansfield, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, after suffering a stroke.
Ken was born January 10, 1943, to Virgil and Goldie Phillips and raised in Mansfield, Ohio. Ken retired from Empire Detroit Steel Mill Mansfield plant in 1993 where he had worked as an electrician for 30 years. After retirement Ken became the maintenance supervisor for Cedarwood Apartments where he worked for ten years.
Ken’s love in life was God and his family. If he had your ear, he would talk about both with such love and excitement. He was so proud of his family and the accomplishments made by every one of them.
Ken was the textbook definition of a jack of all trades. There wasn’t a project or a problem that he could not solve. From working on cars, building homes and additions, and running electrical there was nothing Ken couldn’t do. If you told Ken, it couldn’t be done, he would prove you wrong. Ken was the cliché of the man that would take the shirt off his back to help anyone. If there was someone in need, Ken would be there for them no matter the problem or time of day. Ken touched so many people throughout his life and it has been evident by all the prayers, support and messages the family has received since his passing.
Ken is survived by his wife, Sandra K. Phillips; son, Ken Phillips Jr. (Sheryl); daughters, Renee Sayers (Doug) and Kim Bryant (Brian Stiltner); stepdaughters, Tammy Squires and Teri Kerr; stepsons, Todd Squires (Jennifer) and Sean Squires (Melissa); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Art Phillips; and sisters, Naomi Parsons and June Cole.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Goldie Phillips; and his brother, Roger Phillips.
Calling hours will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd., 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield, OH. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
