Eddie G. Hopkins, 93, of Mansfield, passed away at his home on Saturday morning, December 21, 2019, with his family by his side.
Eddie was born February 17, 1926, in Sophia, West Virginia to Silas Mordecai and Ella (Feazell) Hopkins. He left his family and friends to join the Navy during WWII, serving in Okinawa and the South Pacific. Eddie returned home to WV, where he met his wife, Lola and worked in the coal mines for 20 years.
Eddie was saved in 1952 and began living his life for Christ. He was called into the ministry and was instrumental in the formation of Story Ridge Baptist Church in North Ridgeville, OH. He went on to pastor in three churches in Tennessee as well as preaching in many revivals, at home comings, and as a guest speaker. Eddie retired in 2004 after about 50 years of preaching.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 72 years, Lola (Hendricks) Hopkins; sons, Reggie (Theresa) Hopkins and Eddie (Paula) Hopkins; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet (Donald) Shrewsbury; and many special family and friends.
Eddie was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Hopkins in 1959; his parents; and several brothers and sisters.
Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Werner Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Ave. East, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Bailey officiating.
Calling hours will also be held at Rose & Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley Peace Chapel, 1901 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV 25801 on Saturday, December 28, 2019 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. Immediately following, graveside services with full military honors will be held in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, WV.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
