Miles “Fate” Christian, 76, of Mansfield, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2020 while surrounded by loved ones after a short battle with cancer.
Born on August 9, 1943 in Shelby Ohio, he was the son of Miles William Christian and Emeline Fate Christian. Fate was raised in Plymouth, Ohio and graduated from high school there in 1961. He then went on to attend Heidelberg College where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 1965. Following college he moved to California where he lived for a couple of years before returning to Plymouth to work at Plymouth Locomotive. There he excelled in departments such as personnel and advertising which led him to being promoted to Manager of International Sales. Following the closure of Plymouth Locomotive, he held jobs for a short line railroad, and estate grounds keeper, before he secured his final job, with the Mansfield-Richland County Public Library. He began working at the library in 1996. He worked for the A/V department, where he was a valuable asset. He still actively worked at the library until his recent illness. Fate was a caring, thoughtful, loyal and compassionate husband, father, and friend. Many people who met Fate remember him as a kind and helpful man of few words, but when he spoke people would discover his thoughtfulness and sharp, dry wit. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Melanie Seaman; two sons, Matt Christian (wife, Jeniffer) and Zach Christian; step-granddaughters, Jessica and Katie; half-sister, Penny Knight; and half-brother, Chris Lofland.
