Clay Spencer

Clay Spencer, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Clay was born on March 11, 1933, in Millstone, KY, to Joel and Nora (Trent) Spencer. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force being a heavy equipment operator during peacetime. He retired from Artesian after over 37 years of employment. He was a member of the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church and affiliated with the Northern Ohio Conference. He was a Christian for 64 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and wildlife, gardening, and visiting other churches. He is survived by four children, Anita (Dave) Gilliam of Olive Hill, KY, Paul (Wanda) Spencer of Bellville, Dale (Brenda) Spencer of Mansfield, and Lowell (Angelene) Spencer of Ontario; twelve grandchildren, Kevin (Abbie) Spencer, Brian (Laurie) Spencer, Leanna (Ryan) Daniel, Sarah (Dylan) Cantrell, Christopher Spencer, Katherine Spencer, Zachary Clay (Susanna) Spencer, Laura (Matthew) Parsons, Katie (Josh) Lee, Heather Spencer, Trent Spencer, and Emily Spencer; fourteen great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Lloyd Spencer and JB (Barb) Spencer both of Mansfield, Carlene (Buddy Wayne) Carty of Shelby, and Ann (Kenny) Edenfield of Warren.Along with his parents, Clay was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Plummer) Spencer; great-granddaughter, Lily Grace Spencer; and seven siblings, Buelah Spencer, Creed Spencer, Marie Barnett, Maerine Short, Edna Love, Ernest Spencer, and Lucille Hess.Calling hours will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Werner Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Ave. East, Mansfield, Calling hours will also be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2018, at Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church, 1602 Walker Lake Rd, Ontario. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church, with Brother Larry Hill, Jr. and Brother C. Earl Tackett officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh.
