Dale L Sturdevant

Dale L. Sturdevant, of Mansfield, 85, of Mansfield, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at home. Dale was born on April 24, 1932, in Rootstown, OH, to George and Florence (Webber) Sturdevant. He farmed until he went into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country from 1954 to 1956. He worked from 1956 to 1991 with the Ohio Turnpike, starting out as a clerk, and for the last 16 years, was the Maintenance Superintendent. He was a former active member of Portage Faith UMC in Mantua, OH. Family was the most important part of Dale's life, and he cherished the time that he spent with them. Another important part of his life was his love of riding his bicycle. He rode his bike across the country two times. He also went from OH to FL, OH to MI to see his daughter, and enjoyed many bike trips with his wife, Sandra. He loved to go hiking on the trails with her, especially in the Smokey Mountains. They enjoyed cued round dancing, and western square dancing, and he was president of the Shelby Cloverleaf Square Dance Club for three years.He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Kiner), two children, Linda (James) Parker of Holland, MI and Michael (Terri) Sturdevant of West Harrison, IN, four grandchildren, David (Krista) Sturdevant of Haskins, OH, Matthew (Lauren) Sturdevant of Cincinnati, OH, Neal Parker of Holland,MI, and Gwen (Ryan) Sutton of Chicago, IL; two great-granddaughters, Julia Sturdevant and Lonna Sturdevant; brother-in-law, Leroy (Susan) Kiner of Lucas; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.Dale was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Eileen (Paul) Peck, Gladys (Robert) Martin, Helen (Calvin) Perrine; and Grace Sturdevant; and sister-in-law, Linda (Marshall) Hildebrand.Calling hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Ave. East, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Bonnie Peltomaa officiating.
