Oscar Benavides Obituary

Oscar S. "Benny" "Taco" Benavides, 69, of Mansfield, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, following a lengthy illness.Oscar was born on May 25, 1947, in Crystal City, TX, to Manuel G. and Evangelina (Sanchez) Benavides. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, during the Vietnam War. Oscar was a member of Corner Stone Grace Brethren Church. He had a kind spirit and dearly loved his family and friends, and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, softball, watching TV and going to movies (especially watching Sci Fi movies). During the years, he suffered from many illnesses related to his military service. Throughout his battles, he maintained a positive attitude and a trust in the Lord. He was truly a fighter and an inspiration to all. He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa "Trudy" (Steiner) Benavides. They met as pen pals, and married on July 18, 1970. Also surviving him are three children, Richard "Doug" (Jesika) Benavides of Shelby, Oscar "Sam" (Lynn) Benavides, Jr. of Mansfield and Angela "Gert" Wade of Butler; eleven grandchildren, Felicia Gulua, Mackenzie and Macy Wade, and Nathanial, Autumn, Lily, Charlie, Joe, Corey (Amber), Casey (Carley) Caleb (Amanda) Benavides; five great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Ezekiel, Parker, Sophia, and Maximus; five siblings, Manuel (Irma) Benavides, Sandra (Jesse) Mata, and Suzanna Ruiz, all of Corpus Christi, TX, Yolanda (Jimmy) Boles of Houston, TX, and Christina (Hector) Torres of San Marcos, CA; one brother-in-law, Justo Gomez of Corpus Christi, TX; mother-in-law, Leona Steiner; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Gretchen and Lee Huvler; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Billy Huvler and Melissa Menard.Calling hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Cornerstone Grace Brethren Church, 1905 N. Lexington Springmill Rd, Mansfield, OH 44906. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Les Vnasdale officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273. To send a memorial gift to the family of Oscar S.
