Ada Key Pounds Metcalf was born on January 6, 1927, to Wylie and Mae Vester Pounds in Greene County, Alabama. Ada was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She attended Mt. Olive Elementary and Magbee High School. As a young woman, Ada met the love of her life, Ulyss Metcalf, whom she married in 1947. Shortly after getting married, they left Alabama and moved to Chicago, Illinois. Ada was employed at Murray’s Cleaners in Park Ridge, IL and was a dedicated employee until she retired. After the passing of her brother, Charlie Pounds, Ada adopted and raised her two nephews, Charles and Victory Pounds. Ada also helped in raising many of her family members.
She loved her family with all her heart and never forgot to show or express how much. She was the glue to her family and blessed them all with over 90 years of history and wisdom. Ada was a loving and dedicated mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Ada departed this life on January 12, 2021 in Mansfield, Ohio, at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; five children; one grandchild; and eleven siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two children, Charles (Karmen) Pounds of Columbus, Ohio; Victory Pounds of Mansfield, Ohio; one sister, Obelia Smith of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.
Calling hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
