Alma L. Ankney, age 83 of Mansfield, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Arbors at Mifflin Nursing Home. She was born on August 31, 1941, in Wert County, West Virginia, to the late Elmer and VerneLue (Bailey) Woodring.
Alma worked at many places over the years, but two of her favorite jobs were as a laundry attendant and the mother of her five children. She spent a lot of time watching Andy Griffith and playing cards with her daughter, and she also loved to play Bingo and slots. In her younger years, she enjoyed fishing and hunting, and she was a serious pool shark. She was a spitfire until the very end. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her children Gary (Mary) Hunt, Janet (Bruce) Sutton, Loretta Hunt, Lori (Clarence) Hall, and Steven Hunt; her brother Elmer Woodring; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband General Hunt, her second husband Paul Ankney, her parents Elmer and VerneLue, and several siblings.
Calling hours will take place on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Services will take place at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Perrysville.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the funeral home to help cover the costs of funeral expenses.
