Annie V. (Short) Barksdale

Annie V. (Short) Barksdale, 100, of Mansfield, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, March 23, 2015. Annie was born on January 16, 1915 in Stanton, TN, to Spencer and Mary (Morris) Short. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Mansfield, and previously served her church in Memphis, TN, as an usher, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir Member. Annie enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, and crocheting. She retired at age 91, as a desk monitor for her apartment building in Memphis, TN and in 2005, moved to Mansfield to live with her daughter, Evelyn, and son-in-law, Dennis Caldwell. She is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Caldwell of Mansfield, Della Jean Weaver of Louisville, KY, and Gloria Williams of Douglas, AZ; 29 grandchildren; numerous great, great-great, and great-great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-great grandchild; one brother, Charlie of Brownsville, TN; and three sisters, Maurice of San Francisco, CA, Odessa of Chicago, IL, and Edith Arnice "Sally" of St. Louis, MO. Annie was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Alphaus Williams, Sr.; her second husband, Roy Barksdale; two sons, Alphaus Williams, Jr. and Aubrey Williams, Sr.; two daughters, Helen Hines and Vera Schroll; four brothers; and three sisters. Calling hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 343 N. Main Street, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Elder Barry Lawrence officiating and Dr. Derek Williams eulogizing. Burial will be at Mansfield Cemetery.
