Betty Matthes Obituary

Betty J. (Ethel) Matthes, 78, of Mansfield, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2021.

Betty was born on September 12, 1942, in Mansfield, to Wayne E. and Geraldine V. (Hess) Ethel. She retired from bar tending at the VFW Post 9943, after 25 years of employment. Betty was devoted to taking care of her boyfriend, Dale “Bud” Summerton, and they were together for 27 years. They enjoyed golfing in their younger years, and spending time together. She also loved her dogs.

Along with the love of her life, Bud, she is survived by her sons, Larry Estill of Columbus and Steve Estill of Mansfield; stepbrother, Wes Ethel of Mansfield; and loving family members, Jeff Summerton and Jill Summerton.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Matthes; daughter, Melinda Imperi Holbrook; sister, Shirley Wray; and stepbrother, Wayne Lee Ethel.

There will be no services at this time, per Betty’s request. Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield, is handling the arrangements.
