Carol E. Cowan

Carol E. Cowan, age 72 of Mansfield, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. She was born on January 28, 1953, in Taylor, North Dakota, to the late Ronald and Mary (Kirschenheiter) Hubert. She was married to the love of her life, Clarence “Ed” Cowan, for 42 years.

Carol graduated from Taylor High School in 1971. She worked for the Mansfield News Journal in the circulation department for 30 years, and then she spent 10 years working for DRS. She enjoyed arts and crafts, especially sewing. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for over 50 years. Among many wonderful things, her family fondly remembers her cooking. She loved hosting Christmas Eves at her house and feeding her family. Her grandkids were her world, and she cherished the time she spent with them. She also looked forward to her annual shopping trips with her sisters-in-law and friends. She was the heart of her family and always made sure everyone felt her love. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband Clarence “Ed” Cowan; her children Abby (Glenn) Ritzman and Curtis (Becca) Cowan; her grandchildren Brady Ritzman and Benjamin Webb; her siblings Ronald (Susie) Hubert, Dan (Pat) Hubert, Al (Mary Lou) Hubert, and Nelson (Mechelle) Hubert; her siblings-in-law Monoka (Rev. Ernie) Brown, Raymond (Anita) Harple, and Julie Cowan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ronald and Mary Hubert; her brother Leo (Charlene) Hubert; her mother- and father-in-law Emery and Jackie Cowan; her brother-in-law Dwaine Cowan; and her dearest cousin Joyce Reiter.

Family and friends may gather to honor Carol’s memory on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
