Eileen Burns Obituary

“A capable wife who can find?  She is far more precious than jewels”…(Proverbs 31:10). A precious and capable wife and loving mother and grandmother answered the call to eternal life on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Ohio Health.

Eileen Carroll Matuch Burns (Hall) was born to George G. and Florence E. (Moffett) Matuch on May 17, 1923 at Lucas, Ohio.

She was a gifted and talented musician playing the clarinet in the Lucas marching band and the piano for many school programs.  She loved to dance and enjoyed honing her domestic skills in Home Ec. Class.

She was “fixed” up on a blind date by her best girl-friend, Anna Mae (Jones) Taylor; and met her future husband, Earl O. Burns, Jr. Together they shared 40 years and raised two daughters.

She was the manager of the card shop at Dunkin Jewelers downtown.

Eileen had a servant heart and was always busy teaching Sunday School, accompanying the Sunday School worship, teaching VBS, assistant choir director for the cherub and junior choirs, and lent her vocal talents to the senior choir.  She also was member of the WELCA (women’s church group).

Eileen and Earl enjoyed dancing and dining out and going on vacations.  In later years they enjoyed a round of golf.

Eileen is survived by her daughters, Rev. Carol A. (Ronald) Kilgore and Connie K. Zappone. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Tiffany Zappone-Curvin (Bobby), Crissy Johnston, and Zach Zappone (Amy); four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Harlan (Skip) Burns; numerous cousins;  the Woodrow Stone family; and her cat, Zoey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; her second husband, Don Hall; her sons-in-law, Dennis E. Meyers and Randell Zappone; and her little dog, Sparky Coal.
