Ernie Phipps Obituary

Ernie Phipps, age 91 of Shiloh, Ohio, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at home following an extended illness, while surrounded by his loving daughters. Ernie was born November 17, 1934, in Salyersville, Kentucky, to Arlen and Addie (Montgomery) Phipps. He married Justina Isaac on December 3, 1955, and they were married for 65 years before she preceded him in death in 2021. His son Dennis and daughter-in-law Vicky Phipps also preceded him in death.

Ernie retired from General Motors after working there for 32 years. He enjoyed working on his small farm, mowing, and taking care of his pond. He was an avid hunter, running his coon dogs and hunting squirrels, rabbits, and deer hunting with his son. He enjoyed fishing and having fish fries with the family. He attended Stone Valley United Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughters Vicky (Paul) Sakala of Lexington and Carolyn (John) Cook of Perrysville; his three grandchildren Shane (Heidi) Cook of Perrysville, Gregg (Donna) Phipps of Salyersville, KY, and Dawn Gottron; his one great-grandson Scott Phipps of Salyersville, KY; and his two great-great-grandsons Nathan and Gabe Phipps of Salyersville, KY. He is also survived by brothers Layton (Naomi) Phipps of Cincinnati and Thomas Phipps of Salyersville, KY; his sisters Emarie Sudduth of Ashland, OH, Delana Castle of Tennessee, and Barbara (Kermit) Gamble of Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his wife and son, Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Sadie Caudill, Alkie Russell, and Selvinleene Conley, and his brother Clayton Phipps.
