James Howard Askey, 88, of Mansfield, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025.
James was born July 6, 1936, in Ashland, the son of Howard S, and Velma Thora (Clark) Askey. On December 31, 1955, he married June Elaine Keiser.
One of his proudest accomplishments was adopting four children from South Korea at the ages of two, four, five and five.
James worked at GM as a security guard for thirteen years, and retired as a die setter, having worked at GM for thirty-two years before retiring. He served at Mansfield Baptist Temple since 1957 as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, song leader, janitor, doorkeeper and usher. He enjoyed woodworking and making rustic crafts from old barn siding. He also enjoyed weightlifting, judo, and karate.
He is survived by his daughters: Jill Campbell of Mansfield, Amy (Bill) Fennell of Apple Valley and Jennifer Langdeau of Chandler, AZ; sons: Bryan (Donna) Askey of Mansfield, Joshua (Lisa) Askey of Chandler, AZ, David Askey of Mansfield, and two bonus sons, Amon Kwon of Simi Valley, CA and James Kwon of Los Angeles, CA; twenty-one grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, June.
Friends will be received Friday May 9, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd., 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Robert J. Kurtz officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
