James Rasnick Obituary

James Alex Rasnick, 94, of Shelby, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020 while in the care of Crestwood Care Center, Shelby.

James was born November 13, 1925, the youngest of six children born to Oliver and Nannie (Cecil) Rasnick of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky and the last surviving member of his family.  Jim was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII.  He worked as a florist with his partner, Jan, in Port Arthur, TX.  Jim loved animals, especially his Chihuahuas. 

He is survived by his special niece and her husband, Barbara Dotson Eakins and Jim Eakins of Shelby; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his special friends, Bob and Charli Kiser of San Antonio, TX.

James was preceded in death by his parents; his partner of fifty years, Jan Navarre of Port Arthur, TX; a brother and sister-in-law, William (Katherine) Rasnick; a sister, Berta Rasnick; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillian (Doc) Heiner, Sarah (Lacy) Dotson, and Carolyn (Charles) McKenzie

The family wishes to thank Dr. Chawla and the Crestwood Care Center nurses, aides, and administration for the wonderful care given to Jim during his residency there.

Private graveside services and interment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH.
