Jean M. Bright, age 93, of Mansfield, left this life on Monday, January 6, 2025, to begin her new life in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Jean was born on April 11, 1931, in Cleveland to the late John and Christine (Miller) Maurer. She married the love of her life, Philip S. Bright, in May of 1959, and they spent 62 beautiful years together before his passing in 2022.
Jean spent many years as a real estate broker, and she loved working, enjoying her most recent job at Johnny’s Mattress and Furniture even into her 90’s. She also had a great love for singing and playing the piano. She directed the church choir for many years, and she sang many solos throughout her life, though she truly enjoyed singing with her husband Phil whenever she had the chance. She adored her dogs, her flowers, which were inside, outside, and all over the place, and every moment she spent with her family. She took great pride in planning the perfect family get-togethers. Most of all, she loved her Lord, and in her final days, she couldn’t wait to be with Him.
Jean leaves behind a loving family of five children and in-laws, Jim (Ramona) Matthes, daughter-in-law Sandra Matthes, Laurie Simmons, Steve (Dawn) Bright, and Curtiss (Jennifer) Bush; sister Eleanor Hamilton; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Along with her husband, Phil, Jean was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine Maurer; her son, John Matthes; two premature babies; her brother, Jack (Alma) Maurer; and brothers-in-law, George Bright and John (Helen) Bright.
Calling hours will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2025, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with her son, Steve Bright, officiating. Burial will follow at Mansfield Memorial Park.
