Leona J. Rhodes, 84, passed away peacefully into the Lord’s care on Saturday, October 3, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born in Eskdale, West Virginia, to the late Veary and Clara (Phalin) Crouch. In September of 1952, Leona married Charles “Charlie” Rhodes who passed away November 4, 2000. Leona and Charlie made their home in Mansfield, raising their family there.
Leona is survived by her children, Deborah (Tom) Crank of Butler, OH, Pamela (Dave) Crank of Mansfield, OH, Bruce Rhodes of Mansfield, OH and Jeremy (Maranda) Rhodes of Ashland; sister Maxine Kaufman of Toledo; 11grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Truly a Proverbs 31 woman, her price is far above rubies. Her hands were never idle as she always ensured her family was cared for and their pantries were full. She would do without so that others could have. Leona loved spending time with her family, and attending gospel concerts of the Glory Way Quartet, in which her grandson, Justin Crank sings. Leona will be remembered for her kind and gracious spirit and her beautiful smile.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Veary and Daniel Crouch; and granddaughter, Rachel Rhodes.
The family would like to extend a special thank you and their appreciation to Linda Stentz and to the staff of Good Shepherd for their wonderful care of Leona.
Calling hours will be held Friday, October 9, 2020 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Caesarea Church, 807 Taylor Rd. Mansfield with a funeral service immediately following at 3:00 p.m., conducted by her sons-in-law, Pastor Tom Crank and Dave Crank. Burial will be in Caesarea Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Richland Pregnancy Services or Bunkerhill Baptist Church.
Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd., 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield is handling the funeral arrangements.
