Leonard L. “Louie” Smith, 70, of Lucas, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 4, 2021.

Louie was born on March 3, 1950, in Mansfield, to Robert J. and Helen (Maglott) Smith. He worked at Mansfield Plumbing for 31 years, and retired from Ardent. Louie also loved to farm. He married his sweetheart, Janet (Metcalf) Smith on August 28, 1971, and she survives. Along with his farming, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; three children, Jennifer (Smith) Graven of Lucas, Kevin (Sarah) Smith of Lucas, and Laura (Smith) Markley of Mansfield; eight grandchildren, Melanie Graven, Jessica Graven, Kohler McAlexander, Stuart Smith, Kamryn Smith, Alyssa Markley, Ashley Markley, and Zeke Markley; sisters, Sandra (Dennis) Beer and Barbara (Michael) Lantz; niece, Kimberly (Jeff) Arnold; and nephew, Steven (Amanda) Lantz.

Louie was preceded in death by his parents.

Private graveside services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in care of Mifflin Twp. Fire Department, 2326 OH 430, Mansfield, OH 44905. Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Ave. East, Mansfield, is handling the arrangements.
