Raymond Lee Maffett, Sr.

Raymond Lee Maffett, Sr., 81, of Spring, TX and formerly of Mansfield, OH, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.

Raymond was born March 23, 1939 in Mansfield, the son of the late Dick and Evangeline (Merritt) Maffett. Raymond loved Jesus and God’s word and he loved sharing both with everyone he met. He was a part of 2 local churches during his years in Texas, Conroe First Assembly of God and Champion Life Centre. Raymond loved to serve by greeting at the doors of his church.  He always had a smile and an encouraging word for everyone. He was known as “Mr. Ray” and was definitely loved by all!  

Raymond had retired from General Motors in Ontario after 21.3 years of service and moved to Texas in 2011, when his wife was diagnosed with ALS. He was her primary caregiver until she passed in 2014. His favorite pastimes were going to bible study at his small group and eating dinner at his son and daughter-in-law’s home throughout the week. He absolutely loved desserts! He was a beloved dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and father-in-law, who will be greatly missed by all.

Raymond is survived by four sons, Raymond L. (Sandra) Maffett, Jr. of Leesburg, FL, Rick A. (Kathy) Maffett of Spring, TX, Russell E. Maffett (Vicky Buckley) of Mansfield, OH, and  Ronald L. (Jacqueline) Maffett of Arlington, TX; eight grandchildren, Jamie, Cortney, Amber, Derek, Cory, Chelsea, Austin, and Kurtis; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Janet (John) Clevenger; one niece; and two nephews.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly (Southard) Maffett; father, Dick Maffett; mother, Evangeline Long; and step-father, Orval Long.

Calling hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with his grandson, Derek Maffett officiating and his wife, Courtney Maffett singing. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
