Roberta May Obituary

Roberta P. May, age 55 of Mansfield, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, after a courageous battle against breast cancer. She was born on February 6, 1970, in Mansfield to Eddie Brewster and Barbara (Whipple) Boyd, and on September 23, 1995, she married the love of her life, Chris A. May. He loved her more than anything. Throughout her fight, he made sure to be at every single appointment, and during her final days, he cared for her in every way he possibly could, keeping her clean and comfortable. He would drop everything if she needed him, always. He will cherish the memories of their time together, in the Smoky Mountains and in their everyday life, forever.

Roberta, known by those who loved her as “Bert,” worked at Directions Credit Union for 36 years, holding every position imaginable along the way, most recently as a fraud specialist. She also worked for Walmart as a customer manager for 25 years. She was an avid reader, often juggling two or three books at a time, and she was a proud supporter of local youth baseball, dubbed the “secretary of Sterkel Field.”

She loved her family dearly. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. She especially enjoyed watching the older boys race go-karts and looked forward to her yearly vacations to the beach with April. She was a loving, caring, and unbelievably kind person, the type of woman who would help anyone in need no matter the circumstances. She never met a stranger.

Above all, Roberta was a fighter. For 11 years, she fought.

She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband Chris May; her children Codie (Brittany) Brewster, Cahlah (Jeremy) Swank, and Shelbie May; her parents Eddie (Patty) Brewster and Barbara (Isaac) Boyd; her siblings April Sevits, Jack Whipple, Patty Brewster, Nikki (Erick) Erhard, and Leslie Stubbs; her grandchildren Madelynn Frontz, Collin Brewster, one on the way, Kompton Granger, Ayrton Stegall, Alexis Swank, Mac Swank, and Kip Swank; and numerous extended family members.

No formal services will be observed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Instead of sending flowers, Roberta’s family asks that donations be made to her beloved Sterkel Baseball Field in her memory. Donations may be made using the following link: https://campaigns.donately.com/t005/landing?account_subdomain=mansfieldswlittleleague&campaign_id=cmp_ba48950fa92b
