Samuel “Sam” Solon, Jr., 89, of Loudonville, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021.
Sam was born on December 29, 1931, in Mansfield, to Samuel and Viola P. (Szczygielski) Solon, Sr. He graduated in 1950 from Mansfield Senior High School, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was stationed four years aboard the U.S.S. Rowan DD 782, as Boson Mate 3rd Class. Sam worked at American Electric, Richland Screw Machine, Karma Metal, a guard at OSR for two years, and taught for 16 years in the machine shop at OSR. He retired in 1991 after 28 years of teaching courses at Ohio State, Miami U. and LaVerne College.
Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing, and many enjoyable moments with his grandsons.
He married Ruth E. Solon on September 11, 1955, and she survives. Also surviving are sons, Dennis E. (Brenda) Solon of Shreve and Samuel (Amy) Solon; grandsons, Samuel J. Solon and Alexander E. Solon; and brother, John (Bert) Solon of Anderson, SC.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul; brothers-in-law, Dr. Marvin Osborne, Robert Duker, and Clyde Crook, sisters-in-law, Erma Osborne and Naomi (Don) Brown, and brother-in-law, Clair (Barbara) Gray.
There will be no services at this time. Werner Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Ave. East, Mansfield, is handling the arrangements.
