Wayne William Whitehead walked into the open arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, May 7, 2026, after a short illness. He was 76 years old.
A lover of all things equine, he held numerous Judge and Steward cards and was always ready to judge equine shows. Wayne was enthusiastic about being a high school teacher and after retirement, he then decided to substitute teach for various Richland County schools.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jearl and Mary, and his in-laws, Roger and Mary Margaret Metcalf.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie, who was by his side when he passed; Marjorie’s children, Tom (Shannon Chang) Schrack, Jr., and Michele (Ed) Newmeyer; her grandchild Sarah Schrack; and his sisters-in-law Jeannette Metcalf and Susan (Leroy) Kiner.
The family wishes to thank and praise the employees of OhioHealth Mansfield, especially the nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors, and respiratory therapists of the intensive care unit. Your kindness to Wayne and to Marjorie and her family did not go unnoticed and will never be forgotten.
A private service is to be held.
Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield, is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
