Gene L. Gompf, C.F.S.P

Gene L. Gompf, C.F.S.P

Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer

Gene L. Gompf completed his education at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1985. After serving his apprenticeship under his father, Robert Gompf, he received his license as both a funeral director and embalmer in May 1986. In January 2013, Gene was awarded the designation of Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (C.F.S.P.) by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice.

Gene is active in the community and attends Mount Gilead Church of Christ. He is also a Lions Club member, serves on the Hospice of Morrow County and the Morrow County Community Foundation Board of Directors, is Secretary of the Cardington Improvement Corporation, serves on the Multi-County Business Education Advisory Council, and is involved with the Morrow County Chamber of Commerce, among other community efforts.

In addition to his professional and community commitments, Gene is a dedicated father of five children and a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren.

Licensed Funeral Director, Monuments & Advanced Funeral Planner

Geoffrey is a third-generation funeral director and the third member of his family’s legacy to serve in the profession. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from The Ohio State University before beginning a two-year funeral director apprenticeship in 2016 under the mentorship of his father, Gene L. Gompf. While completing his apprenticeship, Geoffrey attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, where he earned his degree in Mortuary Science in 2018.

Geoffrey is actively engaged in advancing funeral service both locally and throughout the state of Ohio. He currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association, reflecting his commitment to leadership, professional development, and the future of the funeral service profession.

In addition to his professional work, Geoffrey remains deeply involved in his community. He is a member of both the Mount Gilead Lion’s Club and the Crestline Lion’s Club and serves on the Crestline Youth Sports Board. He is also a member of VFW Post #2920 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #859. Beyond funeral service, Geoffrey works alongside his brother, Greg, at Gompf Monuments.

The youngest of five Gompf children, Geoffrey married his wife, Whitney, in 2017. Together they are raising their children—son, Grier, and daughters, Peri and Aggie. The family shares their home with two Labrador retrievers, Wrangler and Willie. In the fall, when he is not serving families, Geoffrey can often be found cheering on his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.

Alysse Morgason

Alysse Morgason

Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer

Originally a native of Marion, Alysse studied English at The Ohio State University at Marion before moving on to receive a Bachelor of Mortuary Science from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 2015. She received her state licensure in February of 2017 and now enjoys serving the Mansfield community as a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer.


In her free time, Alysse plays the violin as a member of multiple community and church orchestras, and she loves supporting local high school musicals through her contributions as a pit musician for the Marion Palace Theatre. She has two large dogs, Grim and Creature, and they never pass up an opportunity for a good hike.


Kendall Mortimer

Kendall grew up in Butler and graduated from Clear Fork High School in 2021. She continued her education at North Central State College, where she earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in 2023. She then attended the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, graduating with a Bachelor of Mortuary Science in 2024.


Following graduation Kendall returned to the Mansfield area and upon completing her apprenticeship she joined Werner-Gompf Funeral Services where she serves as a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer.


Outside of work, Kendall enjoys spending time with her family and friends, antiquing, making art, and reading. She also enjoys spending time with her snake, Jeff, and her cat, Ellis.


Donna Garcia

Donna Garcia

Office Manager, Funeral Director Apprentice

Donna is our office manager, joined our funeral home in 2004, and had worked in an office setting for many years prior.  She enjoys the challenges that go along with preparing for a funeral. Her past experiences have prepared her to warmly interact with families.

Donna was born in Alaska, grew up in Pennsylvania, and earned a B.S. Degree in Accounting from Pensacola Christian College, Pensacola, FL.  She  moved to Mansfield in 2001 to marry her husband, John.  Donna is an active member of Mansfield Baptist Temple, loves and serves the Lord, and has a genuine concern for others.  She enjoys reading, traveling, going to the beach, and spending time with family, especially her husband and and their four legged furbaby, Bridger.



Denise Clements Johnson

With 16 years of experience in the insurance industry, Denise Clements Johnson is known for her dedication, reliability, and deep commitment to serving her clients. A proud graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School and lifelong resident of Morrow County, Denise draws strength from her roots and the values instilled by her parents, Mark and MaryAnn Clements, and grandparents Earl and Winnie Clements.

In 2026, Denise became a Celebrant, broadening her ability to help families honor and celebrate life.

Denise shares her life with her husband Shawn and their daughter Aubri, a spirited softball player who keeps the family cheering from the sidelines. Their home is also filled with the joyful chaos of four beloved pets: Pete, a chocolate lab with a gentle soul; Louis, a playful French bulldog; and two cats, Oreo and Zoro, who rule the roost with feline flair.

Whether she’s helping clients navigate insurance options or spending weekends at the ballfield, Denise brings heart, integrity, and a strong sense of community to everything she does.


Renee Underwood

Office Administrator

Renee has been working for Werner-Gompf Funeral Services since 2013.  She was born in Mansfield and graduated from Madison High School in 1971.  She began working at a local bank as a Cooperative Office Education student in 1970.  She then attended Kent State to earn Installment Lending Certificate and Athens University for a two-year Banking Operation Certificate.  She took additional banking courses at North Central College, where she worked until her retirement in 2010 following nearly forty years as an Assistant Vice President.

Renee enjoys sewing, crafting, running around with her sister Becky, and taking care of her husband Perry and their "too many" rescue cats.


Bruce Phipps

Bruce Phipps

Funeral Assistant

Bruce graduated from Lexington High School in 1965. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving his country from 1969-1971. He was employed with Keybank for 38 years and joined our firm in 2006. Bruce is a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
